Taiwan's total gross indoor venue sizes are up 16.2 percent in 2019
The MICE industry in Asia has been an emerging hotspot in recent years. Within the region, Taiwan has performed outstandingly. According to the Global Exhibition Industry Association (UFI) 's "15th Trade Fair in Asia Report", Taiwan ranks sixth in Asian country/region in terms of space sold for exhibitions, following China, Japan, India, S. Korea and HK, with 863,750 m2 of the total 140 professional EXPOs held in 2018, achieving 4.8 percent year-to-year growth. In addition, Taiwan is ranked eighth in the Asian country/region in terms of total gross indoor venue sizes, reaching 151,300 m2 in 2019, up 16.2 percent from 2018, according to research data provided by the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA). With Taiwan's leading export-oriented industries, Taiwan's exhibition market is expected to grow steadily, making it the best springboard into Asia.
Industrial clusters and world-class shows offer more advantages
Taiwan has an excellent transport infrastructure and buyers visiting Taiwan have easy access to industrial clusters around the island. A journey of two hours on the Taiwan High Speed Rail links clusters of ICT and biotech sectors in the north; machine tool, woodworking machinery, bicycle, and hand tools industries in central; and auto parts, plastics processing machinery, optoelectronics, yacht making, and fastener manufacturing factories in the south.
Taiwan's experienced and efficient service teams have attracted many international exhibitions to the island. The island is already home to major events such as COMPUTEX TAIPEI and TAIPEI CYCLE, both ranked first in Asia and the second largest trade shows in the world for their respective industries. In addition, a number of Asian and world-leading expos were held in Taiwan, including TIMTOS, Food Taipei, Taipei AMPA, Fastener Taiwan, Bio Asia Taiwan, SEMICON Taiwan, Smart City & IoT, Secutech and Taiwan Healthcare + Expo. These trade shows provide the best platform for trading and sourcing business opportunities, attracting more than 110,000 international buyers to visit.
Modern and Comprehensive Premises
Taiwan has actively worked to build facilities that cater specifically to the exhibition industry. Currently serving northern Taiwan are Taipei World Trade Center, Exhibition Hall 1, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center 1 (TaiNEX 1), and the newly opened TaiNEX2. TaiNEX 2 is officially in operation as of March 2019, with the grand opening of TIMTOS 2019 as the first large-scale professional tradeshow held. Along with TaiNEX1, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center has a total capacity of over 5,000 stands and 38 meeting rooms. The two exhibition centers are expected to become core venues for Taiwan's MICE industry, as well as one of the major conventions and exhibition centers in Asia.
In addition, the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center (KEC) is an international exhibition and meeting venue that provides high-quality infrastructure and services to event organizers and was officially in operation as of 2014. With its official operation, KEC has become the center of MICE in the south of Taiwan. KEC won 3rd Place in the AFECA Outstanding Venue Award in 2019. In the future, more venues are expected to be in operation and will further enhance the development of MICE in Taiwan.
